PRODUCE

Super Fresh Produce, Free of Charge.

SLIP is primarily a lighting lab, but in order to test the lights, we’ve gotta grow some food too! So super fresh produce is a byproduct that we offer up to the community. Our Health Packs are a random assortment of what we’re growing on, available weekly for free (or donation).

Leafy greens

Most of our farm is vertical, which makes it perfect for growing leafy greens in small spaces. Varieties that we grow with this method include:

Basil: Genovese, Lemon, Purple, Thai.

Bok Choi: Green, Purple.

Collards.

Kale: Curly Blue.

Lettuce: Buttercrunch, Red Fire.

Mustard Greens: Purple Giant.

Flowering Plants

Fruiting crops require different conditions, so we grow them in Bato-Buckets in their own special room. We currently offer cherry tomatoes, but will be adding other varieties and fruiting crops in the near future.

Tomatoes: Rapunzel, Big Cherry.

Our Company Commitments:

PESTICIDE-FREE PRODUCE

SLIP farm invests in preventative measures to keep pests and pathogens out. And when we do clean and sanitize, we use plant-based cleaners and hydrogen peroxide.

If we do have to be reactive instead of proactive, we promise to use the gentlest, safest methods possible.

WATER AND ENERGY-SAVING TECH

Our recirculating irrigation system can use from 70-90% less water than conventional outdoor growing. Our lights are all LED, and our patent-pending liquid-cooling light will save even more energy.

REDUCING WASTE

SLIP delivers all shipments in reusable harvest totes, and we recycle and compost in our space. We will never use Styrofoam/#6 polystyrene.

ONGOING IMPROVEMENT

SLIP farm is never done — we’ll always be working towards better efficiency, better tech, and better plants.

Some goals:

  • Compost tea as our nutrient supply, from 100% of our organic waste composted.

  • Use SLIP made lights as 100% of our lighting.

  • Revitalizing more vacant urban spaces around St. Louis and filling them with fresh, healthy food.
